What do you get when you combine brightly colored linens, a rockin' band, and an ice bar? In this case, it was an evening fund-raiser for the Archdiocese of Miami. On October 20, more than 650 guests stepped out in their finest formalwear at Miami's Doral Golf Resort & Spa's newest event space, the 24,000-square-foot Legends Ballroom.
Arriving via red carpet, guests were greeted with champagne and whisked off to the ballroom's cocktail area for socializing and bidding in a silent auction. As supporters, board members, and members of the church browsed the donated items—ranging from an autographed Alonzo Mourning sneaker to Tiffany & Co. diamond jewelry—they were treated to Bacardi U.S.A. Inc. cocktails, from the evening's liquor sponsor, and light bites compliments of the resort. So Cool Events created a branded ice bar with the event's theme, and outside they provided spandex-covered high-top tables illuminated with jewel-tone lighting.Inside the ballroom, AB Cover Designers draped tables in lively linens of gold, magenta, and deep orange. After an invocation by Archbishop John C. Favalora, honoree Bunny Bastian was recognized with the Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh Award for her lifelong contributions to the church.
Following Bastian's acceptance speech, guests indulged in a three-course meal prepared by Doral's culinary team. Highlights included grilled filet mignon with a cabernet demi-glace and Parmesan-encrusted swordfish with a lemon caper beurre blanc. City Lights, a band provided by Chase Entertainment, got the crowd on their feet and played long into the night.
"We wanted to insure a balance of both elegance and sophistication, but at the same time incorporate a Miami flare to keep things interesting," said Martha Velasquez, event coordinator for the Catholic Community Foundation.
