Judging from the antique fixtures, furnishings, and decor, the Box may look like it’s a hundred years old, but the owners (Simon Hammerstein, Richard Kimmel, Randy Weiner, and Serge Becker) have integrated—and concealed—up-to-date sound, lighting, and audiovisual technology in the Lower East Side venue. Housed in a former sign factory, this fully renovated 5,000-square-foot, 392-capacity dinner theater now has a small stage, booths and banquette seating, two bars, and an on-site kitchen. Located beneath the main level are two dressing rooms (one with direct access to the stage above) and bathrooms. The Box is now available for events, and plans are in the works for a bistro-style menu and a roster of unusual performing acts. —Anna Sekula
