The third-annual New York Comedy Festival kicked off with a roast of famed chef and restaurateur Mario Batali. Dubbed “Roasted, Battered & Fried,” the evening featured the likes of James Gandolfini and Emeril Lagasse digging in to the gourmand for a good cause: All proceeds from the event benefited the Food Bank for New York City. Michael Simon Hall of Hall Creative found inspiration in the cook’s trademark footwear when creating the event's custom lanterns. The evening’s candleholders featured an image of Batali’s trademark “Croc” chef clogs over flames, and the shoes were put on (actually, in) ice as well, thanks to a sculpture by Okamoto Studio. Jennifer Kunin of Event Management Group oversaw the benefit.
