With the economy on the fritz, the "no tickets required" adage, and the chance for the first 1,000 spectators to win tickets to Sunday's big game, DirecTV's Celebrity Beach Bowl drew a hefty crowd to Al Lang Stadium at Progress Energy Park in St. Petersburg on Saturday. So large in fact, close to people 1,500 were turned away due to the stadiums 7,200-person capacity.

After walking the "blue" carpet, celebs and athletes entered the green room and gifting lounge coordinated by GBK Productions where they were each given a tour of the retail vendors like Reebok and UGG Australia on display. Representatives from each company personally introduced their products to the more than 30 celebrities participating in the game, with some even posing for promotional photos.

Outside Tony Schubert and Dax Miller of Event Eleven covered the baseball diamond with sand creating a rectangular playing field with a performance stage on one end and V.I.P. viewing lounge complete with catering from Catering by Olympia along one sideline.

The game teamed up NFL icons like Eddie George and Merril Hoge with celebrities including Kevin Dillon, Christian Slater, and Keeping up with the Kardashians stars Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian (Kim was a no-show) for a 40-minute flag football game that was simulcast on DirecTV's 101 Network and WGN America.

Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints coached team NFL Sunday Ticket with quarterback Steve Young while Eli Manning of the New York Giants coached Team Superfan with quarterback Warren Moon. After about an hour of somewhat unorganized play and an interruption by an attention-seeking fan who rushed the field before being immediately arrested amidst high fives from the players, Bush led his team to victory with a final score of 37 to 32.
As in years past, fans rushed from the stadium onto the sand for a live concert from this year's headliner LL Cool J who hit the stage for a brief 10-minute set with a single encore for the remaining crowd, which had dwindled throughout the game.
