AIDS Committee of Toronto Turns to Tall Poppy

Jasmine Taulla
Jasmine Taulla
AIDS Committee of Toronto special events manager Jasmine Taulla is responsible for executing three major annual events, including Snap, a photographic fund-raiser featuring a live auction of curated art, a silent auction, and a photo competition; AIDS Walk for Life, a walk through the city that circles back to a community block party with a beer garden; and Fashion Cares, a gala event that includes a dinner, live entertainment, and a fashion show. Taulla has been with the AIDS Committee for just over a year, and moved to Toronto 15 months ago from Melbourne, Australia. She has worked as an event planner for six years.

Graphic Design:Tall Poppy does Web design, advertising, and graphic design. They did our Web site for Snap. Laura, Adrienne, and the team are great: highly motivated, innovative, easy to work with, and the results are beyond expectations. Their creative work is eye-catching, and we get a lot of press as a result of their work. We’ll have a picture that we want to use—this year we had a photo of Pamela Anderson wrapped in a Canadian flag—and they took that and came up with three designs, and we chose which one we liked.”Rentals:Exclusive Affair Rentals keep great records of everything you’ve ordered for past events, which is very helpful. They never let you forget anything that you may need for an event—from staging to coat check, tables and chairs.”

Catering: “Brian King at Ala Carte Kitchen Catering is amazing; he’s the best. The food is always divine, the presentation is spectacular, and he helps out the agency a lot. We used him last year and just used him again for Snap, and he got rave reviews. All of our events are fund-raisers, so we have to try and get people who supply us with good value as well as good prices and still provide a really impeccable service.”

Moving, Storage:Avenue Moving does everything from help load and unload events to store large quantities of stock leftover from events so we don’t have to cram stuff into our offices. After Fashion Cares, when everyone is exhausted, they’re always there waiting with smiles to lift and tear everything down. Leslie Cardella is always there at the end of every event, instructing where things go. She’s been with Avenue Moving over the last six or seven years and is a great support to the agency.”

Venue: “The last three years we have used Canada’s National Ballet School. We were the first to ever use this as a venue for an event. The best thing about this venue is that it is slick, clean, and simple, so we don’t have to put up much decor or dress it up because it’s a great open space. It decorates itself by being so beautiful, with high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows—a refreshing place to be. We usually use it for Snap. Everything can be moved in and out without any hassle with the great loading docks on site. This one makes for a really easy and clean event.”
