There were no Big Macs or French fries on the menu at this McDonald's franchise holiday party—even though the party was held in the fast food giant's new $14 million outpost in Times Square. Instead, franchise owner Irwin Kruger and executive vice president David Andresen enlisted Dean & Deluca to create a high-end menu for supervisors from their six McDonald's and their families (an interesting choice in light of the obesity lawsuits pending against the company).

The non-burger hors d'oeuvres menu included pulled barbeque pork in corn cups, goat cheese wrapped in roasted zucchini and topped with sun-dried tomatoes, and chicken quesadillas. The buffet offered entrees of roasted loin of pork with shallots and pears, and roasted chicken with shrimp, chorizo, mussels and calamari paella. Despite the fancy spread, a few kids—and adults—were spotted devouring Happy Meals.
