It was difficult to stand out among the sea of booths that populated Meeting World 2001 at the Hilton New York, but some companies and organizations managed to get noticed among all of the travel brochures and tchotchke freebies.

You can't miss a Rockette, especially when she's wearing a bright green costume. The Opryland Hotel Group invited Radio City Rockette Cheryl Hebert to represent the hotel chain's “Country Christmas in Nashville” event, which will take place from November 22 through December 31 at its Nashville hotel. Hebert divulged that there are actually 225 Rockettes, and while 36 of them are onstage at Radio City at any given time, others can tour the country and do special promotions such as this one for the Opryland group.

Event management group First Contact offered up a customized slot machine by SCA Promotions for conventioneers to try their luck. And for wave-loving surfer types, the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau hoped their surf board display by Saber Tradeshow Services would convey and fun and sun appeal of the southern California beachside city. (It wasn't revolutionary, but it was more colorful than most of the boring booths.)

Finally, the ever-effective marketing tool, alcohol, was the attraction of the Equinox Resorts' booth. The Manchester Village, Vt. hotel's booth offered cups of Otter Creek Brewing Company's Summer Wheat Ale because the brewery is based in neighboring Middlebury, Vt.
