There’s no better place for Simmons than in the thick of the political scene. Since earning his B.A. in political science and government at Howard University in 2012, Simmons has been making a big bang in is career at NCSCE. Overseeing STEM educators interested in incorporating civic issues into teaching methods to better engage students, Simmons plans impressive annual meetings such as SENCER Summer Institute and NCSCE Washington Symposium. He got his start working for Junior State of America, where he planned civic engagement conferences for high school students interested in politics and government—a passion that has carried over into his personal life. In his downtime, Simmons spends time in his community learning more about the area, he says, “to be a good example of civic engagement to other young people.”
