Oscars Move to February in 2004

August 7, 2002, 12:00 AM EDT

Get ready to start planning your Oscar night bashes—or plan around Oscar night—one month earlier. According to The New York Times, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will hold its annual awards ceremony one month earlier, starting with the 2004 awards show slated for February 29. The date was pushed forward from the end of March in an effort to bolster ratings for the televised awards show, which has suffered in recent years because it trails a long movie awards season that begins with the Golden Globes in January.
