BizBash Media Celebrates 10th Anniversary With Triumphant Expo at Pasadena Convention Center

Pasadena, CA—June 15, 2011— BizBash, the leading B2B trade media for the event planning industry, attracted more than 1,200 event and meeting professionals to the 2011 BizBash West Expo & Awards at the Pasadena Convention Center.

The event is the region’s largest industry gathering, with over 100 vendors showcasing their products and services on the trade show floor, including furniture rental companies, event venues, caterers, audiovisual companies, florists, entertainers, teambuilding specialists, and more.

BizBash also honored the industry’s best with its award programs, the editorially chosen Event Style Awards and user-selected Readers’ Choice Awards, which attracted nearly 30,000 votes. Industry professionals packed the Pasadena Convention Center’s main ballroom to capacity to see the winners in 15 Event Style Award categories and 10 Readers’ Choice categories. Event Style Award winners included the Emmy Awards Governors Ball (Best Corporation or Association Event Concept, Budget Over $50,000) and the MTV Video Music Awards (Best Staging and Set Design). Readers’ Choice Award winners included Deirdre McCready of SBE (Venue Manager of the Year) and Shawn Sedlacek of the VOX Group (Event Producer of the Year).

BizBash also inaugurated two industry tastemakers into its prestigious Hall of Fame for their immeasurable contributions to the event profession over the years: Cathy James, vice president of special events for the Entertainment Industry Foundation, and Richard LoGuercio, president and owner of Town and Country Event Rentals.

Featuring amazing live performances from acts like the acrobatic Zen Arts and unique rock band the Etch Man Band, the expo floor gave over 1,400 attendees access to more than 100 exhibitors and the latest, most creative ideas in the industry, designed to inspire and innovate. Registrants enjoyed guest appearances by renowned specialists in the event and corporate planning industry, as well as a conference program of seminars hosted by renowned business leaders such as Michael Vargo, director of corporate events at the Walt Disney Company, and Katy Carrier, owner and principal of Carrier & Associates.

Hillary Harris, executive director of special events at Warner Brothers Entertainment Group, and David Merrell, president and creative director of AOO Events, keynoted the morning and afternoon general sessions, respectively. Harris wowed the crowd with her unique take on the latest trends and offered personal tips attendees could use in their own design processes. Merrell took his audience behind the scenes, as he shared his captivating insights into producing innovative designs.

Popular new additions to this year’s BizBash West Expo included the Event Leadership Institute, introduced by director Howard Givner, which presented an extensive three-hour workshop on “The Business Accelerator for the Independent Planner.” Then there was the Design Lab, which allowed attendees to partake in an intimate tabletop design workshop led by event pro Eddie Zaratsian, creative director at Tic-Tock Couture Florals. At the #BizBash Social Media Lounge, social media mavens Janice Fryatt and Lindsay Fultz helped attendees get better acquainted with Twitter and amplify their brands through social media by connecting with event professionals at the expo. The Industry Mash-Up included a power hour of event-related association networking and recruitment. The International Special Events Society Tabletop Design Competition gave attendees an up-close look at the creative prowess of established designers. And the Lunch & Learn: Roundtable Discussions were moderated by BizBash president Richard Aaron and West Expo speakers, and covered topics that matter to event pros.
