A Show Fit for a King (Larry)

February 19, 2002
For the second year in a row, the Larry King Cardiac Foundation's Parade of Stars dinner was the kickoff bash for the New York Society of Association Executives' We Love New York Day, a meeting and expo at the Marriott Marquis for association and nonprofit executives and meeting planners.
King served as M.C. of the event, which is one of three national benefits for his foundation, and the evening's entertainment included Marie Osmond, country girl-group Shedaisy, former basketball-great-turned-singer Thurl Bailey and actor and singer Tom Wopat.

The venue--an obvious choice, because Bill Marriott of Marriott International was honored at NYSAE's luncheon the next day--worked well for the slate of entertainers. The Marquis' Broadway Ballroom has an extra large, two-tiered 65- by 80-foot stage, which is considered one of the most advanced hotel stages by many event planners because it can accommodate a variety of events, including televised award shows, concerts, galas and even the NFL draft. The event's d?cor included gobo lighting effects that shone cascading stars--it's called the Parade of Stars, remember--throughout the room.

The event honored Elie Wiesel with the humanitarian award, and We Love New York Day's awards luncheon also honored Martin Luther King III with the Joel A. Dolci Inspiration of Excellence award.
