* INCOMING *

1. TOP EXPERIENCE BRANDS: Jack Morton Worldwide conducted a study of consumers from the U.S., U.K., Asia, and Australia to see how experience brands will fare in the future. Findings suggest that people want a unique experience with a brand, which will in turn determine purchasing decisions, and two in five consumers would pay more for that unique experience. The 10 brands that offer that special experience: Apple, Disney, Google, Microsoft, Mercedes-Benz, Coca-Cola, Sony, Ikea, BMW, Amazon, and Louis Vuitton.

2. DWINDLING OSCAR INTEREST: Experts say the Academy Awards have lost ratings in recent years because of poor host choices and a push to cater to younger audiences, and the telecast is in danger to becoming second to the Golden Globes. Billy Crystal has stepped in to host the show, which airs February 26. New York Post: "But at 63, is he simply too old to recapture Oscar’s former glory — and the 40 million-plus who once tuned in?"

3. AMEX MEETING FORECAST: American Express Meetings & Events released findings Wednesday from its 2012 Global Meetings Forecast. In North America, 42 percent of interviewed meeting experts, planners, buyers, and hotel suppliers see signs of increased activity from their clients. The domestic forecast predicts that with the number of meetings expected to increase, companies will look for new ways to optimize the event spending and up the return on experience.

5. OFFICE HOLIDAY PARTY GUIDE: We've published lots of guides to throwing corporate holiday gatherings (including here: http://bit.ly/mVTruI). Now Grub Street has some rules for attending them: "This is the conundrum of holiday parties: You need a drink because it softens the awkwardness of mixing work relationships with holiday merriment, but drink too much and you'll end up in a situation that's far more awkward in the sobering fluorescent light of Monday morning. Ideally you want to locate yourself right on the boundary of personal embarrassment. I'm here to help you find that line, and retain your dignity."
