NEW YORK For some people, going to events is all about getting a good gift bag. They're always looking beyond the open bar and beautifully arranged flowers to see what kind of sack of goodies waits by the exit. The Santa Maria Novella launch party at the Lafco New York store was perfect for those freebie-minded folks: As soon as guests walked in, they got empty bags and were told to walk through the store to collect free samples of the company's sweet-smelling perfumes and fragrance products.
Between samples, guests (mostly fashion and beauty editors) nibbled on cookies set out in large bowls and sipped drinks from a Piper-Heidsieck-sponsored bar manned by waiters from Dan Taylor and the Party Crew. Blue velvet ropes set up within the store kept guests from sitting--or spilling--on some of the merchandise, and kept them lined up for the next sample station.
Planned by Place New York, the party also featured live models lounging in the store windows, giving an interesting sight to those walking the streets of TriBeCa.
