As the New York version of Dining by Design—the benefit design event for AIDS fund-raising org Diffa (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS)—wrapped up this week, we confirmed that the group will bring the event to Los Angeles in the fall. The event is likely to take place at the L.A. Mart in mid-September, with a more firm date and details expected within a couple of weeks.

The New York stop in the spring and the L.A. stop in the fall are part of a multicity tour for Dining by Design, which will also make stops across the country, in Kansas City, Dallas, Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston. The events will feature dining installations by designers and sponsors like David Rockwell/Rockwell Group for Stolichnaya Elit, Marc Blackwell for Beringer Vineyards, David Stark for Benjamin Moore, and Vivienne Tam for HP.Diffa's New York-based special events manager Steven Williams oversees the tour, and Susan Blond is handling PR for Diffa nationally. We have learned that designer Barclay Butera will chair and Tarin Wilson of Plan A will coordinate the Los Angeles event. "Every city puts its own stamp on the event, but we're feeling very positive about L.A. really blowing the event out and making it spectacular," Williams said.

The last time L.A. hosted a Dining by Design event was in 2004, when Elle Decor was the sponsor, "but it's a whole new event now," Williams said.
