On their way into the Roosevelt Hotel's 80th anniversary party, guests were invited to pick up a fedora or a strand of pearls and experience the flavor of the hotel's opening days at the roaring 20's-themed fete. Roosevelt director of marketing Kevin Croke and Jerry Sibal of Design Fusion gave the ballroom a black, white and silver Art Deco look accented with magenta lighting; it was an elegant but toned-down affair, compared to the hotel's over-the-top Brazilian-themed anniversary party last year.
At the registration area, Design Fusion created a unique floral showpiece that made guests pause to examine it: White hydrangeas clustered at the top of a clear glass vase, in which inverted calla lilies glowed with blue LCD lights in the water. Two other massive arrangements—hydrangeas, casablancas, snap dragons, calla lilies and palms in silver Art Deco-style vases—flanked the black-and-white checkered dance floor where guests danced to the tunes of the Rainbow Room Orchestra (booked through Hank Lane Music and Productions).
At the other side of the ballroom, guests could test their skill against billiards world champion Ewa Mataya Laurance at pool tables rented from Blatt Billiards.
