Entertainment Weekly's annual pre-Emmy awards party was held at Los Angeles' Hollywood Athletic Club, a venue rich in Emmy history—it was the site of the first Emmy awards ceremony back in 1949. Cheryl Cecchetto and Gary Levitt of Sequoia Productions and EW executive director of promotions and special events Jackie Cuddeback created a mod space evocative of an era when TV ruled and over-the-top glamour was de rigueur at Hollywood parties.
Celebrities strolled down a red carpet that featured a gleaming silver Mercedes parked at the entrance to the club, a hint of what awaited guests inside from sponsors Mercedes-Benz and Revlon. Copies of Entertainment Weekly bedecked every available surface (lest guests forget the host even for a minute), flowers from L.A. Premier brightened every room, and Revlon announced its brand by covering a wall in bottles of nail polish and chocolates. And even though not all guests received the celebrity-only gift bags packed by the L.A. Basket & Gift Company and filled by dozens of shop owners in Los Angeles, they still walked away with Revlon lipstick.
Caterer Wolfgang Puck provided mini cheeseburgers and pizzas, spicy tuna tartare, and Asian dumplings for a crowd that included Chris Rock, Donald Trump, Paris Hilton, Peter Gallagher, Sharon Stone, and William Shatner. And to wash it all down: specialty cocktails named after TV shows like the "Gilmore," "Everyone Loves a Mojito," and "A Drop of Will & Grace." Tequila from sponsor Patron also flowed freely.
On the dance floor, DJs AM, Jus Ske, and Michelle Pesce kept the beat going late into the night. And for the non-dancing types, there was an outdoor party space with an ice bar featuring—what else?—the Entertainment Weekly logo.
