With another event season upon us and a new year about to begin, a multitude of new trends in event decor are worthy of attention.
For starters, an intimate atmosphere is a must, according to Richard Randall, director of the design department for A Joy Wallace Catering Production & Design team in Miami. Couches and cocktail tables are replacing the traditional sit-down dinner more than ever, making events interactive and more personal.
"The idea of lounges is being re-incorporated," Randall says. "Our customers are opting for a small affair with an intimate feel that is more relaxed, as if they are entertaining at home."Overall, decor is headed back to nature, both in color and the elements used to bring it all together. According to Roseann Forde, president of Fordecasting, a company that predicts and produces color direction seasonally for many top industries internationally, in New York City, dark wood textures give a well-established, warmer feel to an event, while lighter woods have a stronger effect. Also, incorporating irregular stones, like those found in nature, into centerpieces and decor elements is once again expected to make a comeback.
But instead of just placing nature on your tabletop, why not drop it in? Designs by Sean in Dania has figured out one way to do just that. If you place the centerpiece inside the clear-top table and light it from within, the table itself becomes the focal point. Not only does this add a unique element to your decor and bring an earthy feel to your event, it also allows for more room on the surface of the table.
"The design look is crisp and modern," says Michelle Facey, event producer for Designs by Sean. "Almost any themed landscape can be created inside the tables. This design can be used to display visuals in many different applications for events."
Finally, the consensus between a wide range of decor companies is clear: When it comes to accents, metallics are what you want. The earth tones and textures that are taking over really pop when accented with golds and silvers. From chair ties to menu colors and chandeliers to napkin rings, metallic hues allow you to showcase the natural-looking elements of your decor without sacrificing a bit of dazzle.
