P.J. Clarke’s continued its expansion outside of New York City with the opening of a Washington outpost in early October. The new restaurant and bar joins two other outposts outside of Manhattan, in Las Vegas and in São Paulo, Brazil.
On K Street, just a short walk from the White House, the Washington edition is outfitted with high tin ceilings, mosaic tile floors, red leather banquettes, and dark stained oak that all evoke the old-school charm P.J. Clarke’s is known for.
The space also features a variety of 1940s-era antique lighting fixtures. Historic photos of political figures and the Washington area adorn the walls in both the main dining room and Sidecar, the lower-level private room. Among the standout features is a wrought-iron solarium roof, once owned by the Disney estate, that is fixed above the stairway leading from the main dining room to Sidecar.
Groups of as many as 150 can arrange for private events in Sidecar, while the main dining room can host 125 for semiprivate affairs. Known for its classic American menu, the Washington location will offer the same all-day menu offered elsewhere, along with an extensive raw bar that will be sourced as much as possible from local waters.
