The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum presented its Elie Wiesel Award by video message this year because Nobel Peace laureate and the leader of Burma’s democracy movement Aung San Suu Kyi could not attend. She has not left the country in 24 years but has plans to travel this summer as the political situation improves.

The museum presented the award at its National Tribute dinner April 18 at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center, as part of the museum’s annual Days of Remembrance events. Academy Award-winner Natalie Portman, Holocaust survivor Gerda Weissmann Klein, and White House chief of staff Jacob J. Lew delivered remarks.

Event Engineering produced the show. The hotel provided catering and linens, with flowers from Greenworks Florist. PSAV did the rigging, and Freeman Companies produced the stage banners and assisted in audiovisual duties. Miriam Lomaskin photographed the event.
