There’s more in Thailand than exotic flowers, exotic women, and impeccable hospitality, but those were the selling points at the launch of Thai Airways’ new nonstop service from Kennedy to Bangkok at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The airline’s commercial promotions director, Serm Phenjati; general manager for the Americas, Manit Chaisukumara; and general manager for the Northeastern United States, Wit Kitchathorn, planned the brightly colored event, which convincingly showcased Thailand’s brilliant hues and the airline’s reputation for impressive service.
Ottomans covered in rich purple and gold textiles held arrangements of purple orchids. More than a dozen oversize arrangements—including orchids in a variety of colors, and a few gardenias tucked in for ambrosial fragrance—decked the room, some towering higher than guests’ heads. Thai florists Veerapong Srivongdaeng and Ratana Rattanaveroj arranged the flowers, which were flown in from Thailand for the event.
Models in traditional Thai costumes pinned guests with orchid boutonnieres, and others posed on platforms in front of signage with information about the new service. A flat-screen monitor showed more persuasive travel videos, including scenes of the airplanes’ fully reclining seats.
