The Grammys Are Back

April 10, 2002, 12:00 AM EDT

It's official. The Grammy awards will be back in New York next year, taking over Madison Square Garden on Sunday, February 23, 2003, after four years in Los Angeles. That means big money for the city: More than 100 other events, including school programs, performances, exhibits and parties are held around the ceremony, according to The New York Times. And the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences estimates the event brings $35 million to $40 million to local businesses. The announcement came at a big press conference, after 18 months of negotiations between the academy, the Garden and the city.
