Specializing in floral design and sophisticated decor, Colombian-born Àvila has become a staple within the fashion industry, producing events for clients such as Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, and Condé Nast. Most notably, the New York-based president of Raul Àvila Inc. has overseen decor for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala since 2007.

On the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala (pictured, in slide show): “Last year’s helix or vortex in the Great Hall: half was lace, which represented technology, and the other half was made and covered with red roses, which transitioned from darker at the bottom to lighter further up. The [entrance] carpet was hand stenciled in the same pattern for a cohesive design.”
