Potted blue hydrangeas, preppy patterns, and candlelit hurricane glasses are mainstays at Hamptons beach houses—and lately, at events in Chicago.

In April, the American Cancer Society's Discovery Ball had a look that channeled the East Coast spot with some of its signature trappings. The launch party for American Harvest Organic Spirit, held at the Ivy Room earlier this week, had a similarly beachy feel. And on July 13, Event Creative designer Jeffrey Foster will bring a Hamptons-mansion-inspired look to the Lincoln Park Zoo grounds for the institution's Zoo Ball this year, called “The Great Cats-By.”

Speaking of The Great Gatsby, Baz Lurhmann's screen adaptation of the literary classic hits theaters December 25, which will likely lead to the theme popping up at events across the country. In the meantime, here's a look at how two designers brought classic East End style to Midwest events.
