VENUE: Culture Clash at Man Ray

July 23, 2001, 12:00 AM EDT

Planet Hollywood it's not: Despite the roster of high-profile investors (Johnny Depp, Sean Penn, Harvey Weinstein, John Malkovich) you'll find nary an item of movie memorabilia on the wall. Owned by former record producer Thierry Klemeniuk, Manhattan's latest hotspot Man Ray is a large, two-story venue with Malaysian and Buddhist-influenced decor upstairs (a la the Park) and French Napoleonic furnishings downstairs (similar to the Villard Bar and Lounge). The entire venue can hold 500 for cocktails, or 200 for a sit-down affair. The downstairs, which can hold 200 for cocktails and 100 for dinner, can be rented exclusively for events without closing out the entire restaurant. --Suzanne Ito
