VENUE: Play Video Voyeur at Remote

October 1, 2001, 12:00 AM EDT

It's the place to be seen--literally. Part digital art gallery, part club and part bar, Remote Lounge on Bowery offers more technology than you'd expect in an East Village bar. Equipped with 120 video screens and 75 channels, guests watch and get watched via 60 video cameras that are strategically placed throughout the venue. Twelve consoles with joysticks control the movements of the cameras, so guests can look around without leaving their seats. Remote employees control the rest. (Don't worry: There aren't any cameras in the bathrooms.) You can also show a company logo or presentation. The space can hold 125 for cocktails, and a subterranean dance floor is slated to open in mid-November. --Suzanne Ito
