VENUE: SoHo Grand's Revamped Lounge

October 8, 2001, 12:00 AM EDT

To mark its fifth anniversary, the still-chic SoHo Grand Hotel has redesigned the two rooms of its in-house bar and lounge. The new incarnation of the Grand Bar & Lounge puts a new bar (left) in the space that used to hold the Canal House restaurant, with a more updated look that still incorporates some of the former design's geometric patterns. Now sleek, modern barstools made of bent plywood sit next to comfy chairs with new upholstery including woven zebra-print chenilles, plush velvets, pony hair and camel mohair. One favorite touch: An S-shaped couch--designer William Sofield's nod to the staple of Victorian hotel lobbies. The smaller room with its new bar holds 50 people, and the other room holds about 80. --Chad Kaydo
