1. FIFA OFFICIALS ARRESTED IN CORRUPTION PROBE: In a stunning move, U.S. officials have charged several officials from FIFA, soccer’s governing body, as well as sports marketing executives, with federal corruption charges. The New York Times: “As leaders of FIFA, soccer’s global governing body, gathered for their annual meeting, more than a dozen plain-clothed Swiss law enforcement officials arrived unannounced at the Baur au Lac hotel, an elegant five-star property with views of the Alps and Lake Zurich. They went to the front desk to get room numbers and then proceeded upstairs. … The inquiry is also a major threat to Sepp Blatter, FIFA’s longtime president who is generally recognized as the most powerful person in sports, though he was not charged. Blatter has for years acted as a de facto head of state. Politicians, star players, national soccer officials and global corporations that want their brands attached to the sport have long genuflected before him.” http://nyti.ms/1LIEF4H
2. VICTORIA’S SECRET RETURNS FASHION SHOW TO U.S.: The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will return to the United States after spending a year in London. Elle: "New York City was the site of the first ever Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 1995 and holds a special place in our history and our hearts," said C.E.O. Sharen Jester Turney. "For this year's show, our 20th, we're returning to where it all began." http://bit.ly/1esctbk
3. DEAL TO TAKE SFX ENTERTAINMENT PRIVATE ADVANCES: A deal to revert the electronic dance music promoter SFX Entertainment to a private company moved forward after a special committee agreed to a new offer from chairman and C.E.O. Robert Sillerman. But the company has a 45-day window to shop around for better offers. Billboard: “Tapping the public market allowed SFX material to build its EDM powerhouse. The IPO proceeds helped close out some of SFX's earlier acquisitions such as Totem, ID&T, Made and i-Motion. But SFX has been, at best, a work in progress. Performance hasn't matched pre-IPO expectations. Quarterly and annual earnings have contained deep losses. A business modeled after Live Nation—promotion, ticketing and sponsorships—lacks the certainty of Live Nation.” http://bit.ly/1PMUg9a
