October 8, 2013: NBC Pulls Sponsorship of Gun Show, Social Media Lessons from Fashion Week, See the Futuristic Touchscreens on Fox News Set

1. NBC PULLS SPONSORSHIP OF GUN SHOW: Variety: "NBC Sports will not sponsor next year’s Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show—after several years of backing what organizers bill as the world’s largest gun-related trade show—citing business reasons." The network will still attend the Las Vegas trade show to meet with clients, according to a rep. http://bit.ly/1fdaFAF

2. SOCIAL MEDIA LESSONS FROM FASHION WEEK: During mega events like Fashion Week, competing social media campaigns by dozens of brands may have the effect of canceling each other out. Some efforts, like a Instagram video contest from Stuart Weitzman, failed to pay off, and livestreams of shows fail to reach large audiences. So what are the social media lessons for big events? Women's Wear Daily: "Unless there is massive spend and efforts allotted to the space—think Burberry’s livestream for its women’s spring show that was broadcast on 13 outdoor screens in London, New York, and Hong Kong and, according to the brand, was its 'biggest show ever in terms of social media'—it might pay to keep the focus on the bigger picture." http://bit.ly/18JGjAy

3. SEE THIS: FOX NEWS SET ADDS MASSIVE TOUCHSCREENS: Proving that television is nothing if not a daily live event, Fox News replaced the desks in the background of its set with oversize touchscreens. Mashable: "In a video posted to Fox News this morning, anchor Shepard Smith debuted the Fox News Deck, where journalists will be on camera as they sift through posts on Twitter and Facebook to keep track of emerging news. But staffers will be using large 55-inch Microsoft touchscreens in the background of the broadcast." http://on.mash.to/GHTOaI
