Construction has begun on the new outpost of Nobu in the former L’Orangerie space on La Cienega Boulevard. The restaurant is slated to open this summer. The original L.A. location of Nobu Matsuhisa’s eponymous restaurant—only a few blocks away—will remain open.

A 14,200-square-foot restaurant and lounge will open on the 21st floor of the 811 Wilshire Building downtown this summer. The project—Takami Sushi & Robata Restaurant and the Elevate Lounge—will cost more than $4 million. The space offers striking views of the skyline.
Former Bastide chef Alain Giraud has teamed up with the owners of Falcon and Voda to open a French brasserie near the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Look for a summer opening.

The 68-room boutique Orchid Hotel is expected to open at the end of April downtown (at the corner of 8th and Flower streets), with a 60-seat Mediterranean restaurant called Olivia.

The company behind San Diego hotspots Stingaree and Side Bar will be opening Bar West, an upscale restaurant and lounge, in Pacific Beach this spring. The space will feature private booths, DJs, plasma screens, and bottle service just steps from the sand.

A new Sheraton hotel will debut next to Legoland in Carlsbad by the end of 2007. The hotel will feature 250 guest rooms, 13 suites, a 5,300-square-foot restaurant with ocean views, and 25,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
