2. FINALISTS NAMED FOR 2022 WINTER OLYMPICS: After three other contenders dropped out of consideration, the three finalists to host the 2022 Winter Olympics are Beijing, Oslo, and Almaty, Kazakhstan. Associated Press: “The IOC executive board approved all three as official candidate cities, sending them through to the final stage of the campaign, rather than cut the decimated field any further. The cities must submit their detailed bid files to the IOC by next January. The host city will then be selected by the full IOC membership in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on July 31, 2015.” http://wj.la/1pUbTak
3. NEW YORK MARATHON PICKS CONTROVERSIAL SPONSOR: The hotel industry is taking issue with one of the newest sponsors of the New York Marathon: the short-term home rental company Airbnb. New York Daily News: “Airbnb seems intent on increasing its presence in the city, despite an ongoing investigation by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman into whether some hosts are violating state law by renting their apartments. The company recently launched an aggressive ad campaign in the subways featuring New Yorkers who rent out their flats by the night. The hotel industry on Thursday attacked New York Road Runners Club for teaming up with Airbnb. ‘It’s a questionable decision by an important New York institution like the Road Runners to partner with a company struggling with regulators here in New York City and throughout the world,’ said Josh Gold, political director for the Hotel Trades Council, a union representing hotel workers.” http://nydn.us/1rGA4ca
