ATLANTA: Museum of Design Atlanta has opened an exhibition to highlight spaces, buildings, and environments that embody the spirit and energy of hip-hop music. Titled Close to the Edge: The Birth of Hip-Hop Architecture, the exhibit includes work by 34 participants and features experimental visualizations, installations, façade studies, building designs, and urban development proposals all created over the past 25 years. Close to the Edge debuted on Oct. 15 and will be open through Jan. 29, 2023.

AUSTIN, TEXAS: With a goal of furthering the art of storytelling and highlighting the work of filmmakers, the 29th annual Austin Film Festival will be held Oct. 27-Nov. 3. Guests can expect film screenings, daily roundtable discussions, workshops, and parties, as well as the largest screenwriters conference in the world, which includes more than 200 panelists in discussions centered around not only around film and television, but also around other storytelling mediums (think: plays, podcasts, and digital series).

HOUSTON: Located an hour north of Houston, the Margaritaville Lake Resort in Lake Conroe unveiled a makeover to its 20 meeting rooms. At 952 square feet, the Catamaran room is the smallest of the renovated meeting spaces and can serve as a location for events hosting less than 60 people. For other intimate gatherings, the sunny, 1,080-square-foot Anchor room can accommodate up to 90. For larger events, the 7,380-square-foot Del Lago Ballroom boasts floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Lake Conroe, and can host a gathering of up to 650 guests. And the Compass Ballroom—Margaritaville’s largest ballroom—spans 9,372 square feet, enough room for up to 825.

PHILADELPHIA: Through Nov. 12, Halloween fans can visit Eastern State Penitentiary for “Halloween Nights,” an immersive festival experience featuring five thrilling haunted houses within the walls of a real abandoned prison. Other tricks and treats for guests include guided and self-guided historical tours, live entertainment such as dance performances, a vampire-themed cocktail lounge with themed libations for guests over 21, and more. VIP admission ticket holders will have access to The Speakeasy at Al Capone’s Cell, a prohibition-themed cocktail lounge with “undead” lounge singers.
