US: A Celebration of Latin Music, TikTok Hosts a Summer Party for Employees, New York Coffee Fest Returns, and More

LAS VEGAS: The inaugural RUMBAZO festival kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month on Sept. 10 with a celebration of the Latin genre and the vibrant community that surrounds it. The two-day event took place at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center and featured live music and food and drinks presented by Anheuser-Busch. The weekend started with a welcome party hosted by Becky G at Circa Resort & Casino’s rooftop Legacy Club. Then, concerts at the festival’s main stage included performances by Maluma, Prince Royce, Ivy Queen, Natanael Cano, Omar Apollo, and Yendry. A pool party at AYU at Resorts World Las Vegas wrapped up the festival weekend.

LOS ANGELES: In August, TikTok welcomed 500 employees back to the office with a backyard summer party at its headquarters. Employees were treated to themed ice cream bars and nitro popcorn, as well as TikTok-themed refreshments including the playfully named TikTonik and a Tiklela Refresher. Guests also played oversized backyard games and enjoyed refreshments from a bar sponsored by Banish Skincare. A TikTok-branded beach ball lounge and 360-degree photo booth provided numerous photo opportunities and, as a twist on signing a yearbook, employees signed a 3D TikTok logo.

NEW YORK: Sweet Catch BK, a restaurant that aims to provide the public with “seafood made with soul,” will open in Brooklyn on Sept. 22. Described as a love letter to co-owner Kawana Jefferson’s cultural Southern heritage, Sweet Catch BK will serve fast-casual seafood in the heart of the Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn. Items on the menu will range from shared plates such as black-eyed pea fritters and crab dip to classic, comforting side dishes like macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and candied yams. The star entree will be the Signature Sweet Catch Boil, made with lobster, crab, shrimp, bay scallop, corn, red potato, and a house-made boil sauce. The kitchen will be helmed by Food Network Chopped contestant chef Bryan Lindsay.

The New York Coffee Festival (NYCF) returns to the Big Apple after a two-year, COVID-induced hiatus. Taking place Oct. 7-9 at the Metropolitan Pavilion, attendees can expect to sample java-based beverages courtesy of Oatly milk, coffee shop Blank Street Coffee, coffee roaster Nguyen Coffee Supply, brewing equipment brand Bodum, and so many more. The fest is also partnering with Project Waterfall to raise funds to provide clean drinking water in coffee-producing communities. Early bird tickets are now on sale on NYCF's website.

PHILADELPHIA: The Philadelphia Fall Arts Fest celebrates the start of its 2022/2023 show season on Sept. 17 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Kimmel Cultural Campus.
