CANADA: Calgary Canadian Immigrant Fair, Edmonton Fringe Festival, New Public Murals in Montreal, and More

GLOBAL: ASM Global's second international virtual “collaborative job fair” generated more than double the number of applicants from 2022’s employment expo. The event enabled venues to fill a wide range of positions at both hourly and salaried levels in many skill areas including business development, finance, food and beverage, human resources, sales, marketing, booking, security, guest services, audiovisual tech, catering, and more.

CALGARY: The Calgary Canadian Immigrant Fair will take place Aug. 24 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Telus Convention Centre. The event aims to welcome those new to Canada and Calgary and help attendees succeed in Canada. The trade show and speaker series helps to provide information and inspiration as attendees look for jobs, prepare for school, and settle into their new homes. The event will feature hiring employers, a resume clinic, educational institutes, settlement service providers, an interview skills workshop, speaker sessions, and more.

EDMONTON: With nearly 1,600 local, national, and international artists, Edmonton’s Fringe Festival returns this year Aug. 17-27, offering more than 1,200 indoor performances across some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, such as ATB Financial Arts Barn, Varscona Theatre, and Walterdale Playhouse.

MONTREAL: Foundation President and Chairman Barry Cole has announced Cole Foundation’s Intercultural Conversations-Conversations Interculturelles latest round of grant recipients. Created to motivate the production of professional theatre that features intercultural dialogue and introduces Montrealers to other cultural heritages, the program has granted $171,000 total to 11 companies for the 2023-2024 season. The winning companies are La Messe Basse, Imago Theatre, Geordie Productions, Teesri Duniya Theatre, MAYDAY, and Centaur Theatre Company, among others.

Colorful murals have transformed the Palace Alley and those leading to Chomedey and Sainte-Catherine streets into convivial public spaces. After Peel and Stanley streets last year, Tourisme Montréal, Montréal Centre-Ville, and the organization MU, with the support of the City of Montréal, are continuing their project aimed at improving the cleanliness of these spaces, making them more attractive, and embellishing the heart of the city.
