The charming, Oregon-based band Pink Martini will bring its romantic blend of 1940s and ’50s world-music-influenced melodies to the Hollywood Bowl for three nights with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, September 14 to 16. The 12-piece orchestra made its European debut almost 10 years ago at the Cannes Film Festival and has been dazzling audiences all over the U.S., at venues including the Kennedy Center and the Museum of Modern Art. “My hope is that we’re creating music which can be turned up or down, and played on almost any occasion,” says founder Thomas M. Lauderdale. With timeless, hearty vocals courtesy of singer China Forbes, a gaggle of musicians who always make the party appear to be on the stage, and a range of sound that moves from samba to ’40s show tunes to Piaf-era France, this is music to many ears.
