Downtown's Hyatt Regency Miami took a trip back in time to celebrate turning 25 on September 25. Hotel employees wearing brightly colored "Where Were You in '82?" T-shirts greeted the more than 350 guests curbside and directed them to the adjoining James L. Knight Center, where the party began.
The property's resident event team called upon DECO Productions to make their dream become a reality. A large centrally located disco ball hung from an18-foot truss bar served as the room's centerpiece. Another decor highlight: six 20-foot duratrans—stand-alone frames—holding posters of '80s icons such as Madonna, Billy Idol, and Michael Jackson. The seating areas featured silver sequin and black crushed-satin linens, matching perfectly with the rotating disco balls that stood on each table.Hyatt's catering team opened three food stations from which guests could sample: a carving station featuring aged cold cuts, like Genoa salami and prosciutto, with fresh breads; a cheese station; and a seafood station. In addition, caterwaiters served deviled eggs topped with caviar and test-tube shots of vodka.
Ten-piece party band Soul Survivors were in charge of getting guests up to boogie. Performing hits from favorites like Jackson and Earth, Wind & Fire, they kept the energy high throughout the night.
Mid-evening, the music was put on hold as the hotel's first eight employees took the stage to share memories of their last 25 years with the Hyatt.
"The event served as a big thank-you to the community and our valued patrons who've supported us over the years," said Michelle Edwards, administrative assistant to the senior catering manager.
