Facing Central Park on mythic Fifth Avenue, the historic manor of the Consulate General of France is the work of architects Alexander Walter and Léon Gillette. They conceived the residence, which was heavily influenced by the Italian Renaissance, in 1926 for the financier Charles E. Mitchell.
