As part of the Frieze Projects series, this year's Frieze New York art fair celebrated Allen Ruppersberg's 'Al's Grand Hotel' project, first realized in 1971 in Los Angeles. To recreate the project, a two-room 'hotel' was erected in collaboration with the Los Angeles project space Public Fiction. Two guests could each book one of two rooms—Bridal Suite (pictured) and Jesus Room—which was composed of 12- by 4-foot rental wall panels faced with MDF and covered with wallpaper.

Approximately 45 PVC vinyl strips were anchored to both the north and south entrances, creating a carnival-like structure that gave the rigid structure a more approachable aesthetic and hid the unsightly mechanical elements and plumbing. The tenting alone required more than 100 tractor trailers, with the total number of trucks used to transport the production components approaching 1,400.
