The academy’s annual Governors Ball took place at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland immediately following the Oscars on Sunday. This year’s event—which drew 1,500 winners, nominees, presenters, and other industry types—was an homage to global cinema, featuring a presentation of iconic movie moments plus ballroom decor that evoked old movie-theater designs. Lois Burnwell, a makeup artist and chair of the academy's awards and events committee, oversaw the event for the second year. She worked with Cheryl Cecchetto of Los Angeles-based Sequoia Productions on the ball's decor and production. (Cecchetto and her team have been producing the Governors Ball for 30 consecutive years.)

The 49th annual NYC Pride March took place June 24 and drew more than two million attendees. March organizer Heritage of Pride kicked off the event, with marchers carrying six rainbow balloon arches. This year, the march had a different route—it began on 16th Street and Seventh Avenue in Chelsea, moved down to Christopher Street (the usual end of the march), and then went up Fifth Avenue to end at 29th Street. The route change was made to speed up the march and prepare for the city hosting World Pride in 2019.

The automotive company partnered with experiential marketing firm Mirrored Media for a campaign that saw 15 BMW iFleets wrapped in a colorful custom design created by Portugal the Man's John Gourley. Social-media influencers then drove the iFleets to the festival, sharing their road trip with followers along the way.

Vanity Fair’s Oscars after-party continued to be the most exclusive bash in town. The Sunday-night event once again took place at a custom-built space between the Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts and City Hall, and was hosted by new Vanity Fair editor Radhika Jones. A wall of greenery and marquee signage created an instant photo op at one end of the bash, while the rest of the party had simple decor, allowing the unique paneled ceiling and 50-foot bar to take center stage. Guests dined on fried chicken prepared by chef Thomas Keller, as well as 1,700 In-N-Out Burgers that were served throughout the night.

Academy governor Jeffrey Kurland worked with longtime event producer Cheryl Cecchetto and Sequoia Productions to produce and design this year's Governors Ball, which took place at the Ray Dolby Ballroom of the Dolby Theatre immediately following the ceremony. The night drew 1,500 Oscar winners and nominees, show presenters, and other A-list talent, and was decorated with a “magical transformation” theme, with red, gold, and white colors. Starburst light fixtures and irregular-shaped decor pieces, illuminated with white lights, comprised a cloud-like ceiling installation that served as the evening’s focal point.
