The close of BiZBashFla's Creative Environment FunShop season came later than expected, thanks to Hurricane Katrina, but on November 9 attendees gathered at the Bank of America Tower at International Place for a day of seminars and an Asian-flavored night under the Miami sky.
The creative team led by Frank Clemente and Lynn McGhee of conceptBAIT planned a reception that married sexy South Beach style with Asian decor. The skyscraper's Sky Terrace was curtained off with sheer white fabric until showtime. Once it opened, guests stepped into a reception area that led to a scenic, verdant outdoor terrace. Sheets of spandex adorned with hand-painted images of bamboo served as backdrops to sleek lounges built by Nuage Designs. ASI Productions supplied an 8- by 8-foot stage for two DJs from Nikki Beach to mix beats.
ConceptBAIT's floral decor featured live bamboo from the Bamboo Man, cymbidium orchids, and moss arranged over smooth stones. A large glass vessel ringed with cymbidium blossoms and filled with moss and river rocks was placed at the entrance, with three bamboo stalks towering over a three-foot-tall spandex-covered stand.
Centaurus Media Group (CMG) created a lighting design worthy of a South Beach nightclub, with enormous projections on the walls from 12 projectors, two equipped with fish-eye lenses. A collage of abstract images by Psybervision could be seen across the entire 9,000 square feet of fabric, walls, and ceiling. Door Keys Media created colorful, animated sponsor logos that were also projected throughout. The projections and the lights constantly changed the room's look. Flat plasma screens displayed additional graphics. CMG even shot footage throughout the event, so guests could later check out what went on behind the scenes.
The terrace, with its views of the city, reflection pool, and lush trees, hosted the outdoor portion of the reception. Panache: An Event Rental Company supplied crisp and contemporary table settings with acrylic chairs and khaki-colored linens. In one corner, Kathleen Wright of HennaParties.com and Christina Mendicino of PaintedParties.com decorated guests with temporary tattoos and fantasy makeup.
