Around 350 supporters of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization came out for the second annual "Perfect Pink Party" at Palm Beach's Mar-a-Lago January 14, raising just over $1 million, up from last year's $850,000. Funds from the evening's event came in part from a live auction, including a last-minute surprise itemβan autographed helmet donated by Denver Broncos and former University of Florida Gator quarterback, Tim Tebowβfor which Donald Trump bid $12,000 on to win the item.
"The Perfect Pink Party marks the first event in what is our 30th year as the global leader in the fight against breast cancer," said Julie Teer, vice president of development for the foundation.
Tickets, at which pricing began at $1,000 each, included an hour-long cocktail reception and dinner and entertainment inside the Donald J. Trump Grand Ballroom. Guests, asked to dress in pink, first walked the pink carpet and had champagne, cocktails, and passed hors d'oeuvres like coconut shrimp and crabcakes inside the White and Gold Ballroom and around the pool area. Attendees then entered the ballroom for a seated dinner, where pink lights, linens, flowers, and centerpieces filled the room.
The dinner kicked off with speeches by emcee Michael Yo of Chelsea Lately and the organization's founder and C.E.O. Nancy Brinker, who is also a Palm Beach resident. "Being a global leader for a generation is a direct result of the important work done in the local communities, and we are proud that this event allows the vital breast cancer health and education programs to continue supporting the women of South Florida," Teer said. After dinner, the Peter Graves Orchestra performed on a stage set against a pink backdrop, and a tower of pink champagne was auctioned off for $1,000 a bottle to raise extra money at the end of the night.
Tourneau supplied gift bags for the event, which contained a pink leather luggage tag by FlexJet, Betty Crocker's Living With Cancer Cookbook, and a custom Susan G. Komen makeup clutch by Felix Ray. All of the items came in a white-and-pink canvas bag by Lands' End, with the Susan G. Komen and Tourneau's logos embroidered on it.
