1. AN APP FOR THAT: You might think that at live sporting events, the action is on the arena floor. But a new mobile app at Brooklyn's Barclays Center looks to improve the experience with several features (and charging stations next to flat-screen TVs). New York Times: "the app tries to improve the overall arena experience, including offering the first perquisite available exclusively to people sitting in the nosebleeds. Fans in certain sections in the upper deck can order and pay for food from their phones, then pick it up without waiting in the usual line. … You can also stream live video of the game to your phone. Several camera angles give fans in distant seats intimate views of the court. You can also rewind up to 30 seconds to watch a replay. Barclays is the first arena to offer this service, run by Cisco, which plans to start offering it elsewhere soon." http://nyti.ms/ZWWrNs

2. 'IDOL' SYNERGY: What's Ryan Seacrest's first project with Civic Entertainment, the marketing firm he co-owns? It's "Idol Across America," a promotional tour from sponsors Ford Motor Company, Coca-Cola, and AT&T in which fans and celebrities will carry the show's microphone from New York City to Los Angeles. The 5,000-mile journey—documented on social media channels—will end on the American Idol stage March 13 for the top 10 live performance show. Ad Age: http://bit.ly/14azFP1

3. NEW KIND OF POP-UP: At South by Southwest, the pop-up has gone from restaurant concept to marketing agency. JWT has launched "Walter," an agency with staff from New York, Atlanta, London, and Brazil, which will choose one of 25 ventures to work with. Ad Age: "Why are they doing this? Namely to scout for and build a relationship with the start-up they see as a contender for the coveted next Instagram or Twitter or any number of other consumer services that have blown up at past festivals. Along the way, they'd like to connect this venture early on with JWT's clients." http://bit.ly/YG8hJ0
