First, the After School Matters benefit took place on a new airport runway, and now O'Hare International Airport will once again be the site of a large-scale event. Fashion Focus Chicago, a series of events showcasing the city's fashion talent, kicks off with a fashion show and installation at O'Hare on Friday.
In a partnership between the Chicago Department of Aviation and the Chicago Office of Tourism, "Chicago Fashion in the Airport" will feature several fashion shows that move to different terminals throughout the day while promoting the work of local designers. The on-site fashion exhibition will feature clothing displays and house a "fashion concierge," an information desk where visitors can inquire about Chicago’s shopping scene through October 10.
Fashion Focus Chicago officially starts October 1 and continues through October 8. Now in its fourth year, the weeklong event features five runway shows in Millennium Park, fashion installations, shopping functions, student designer events, and industry seminars. Highlights include Gen Art's Fresh Faces in Fashion (sponsored by BlackBerry and T-Mobile and hosted by Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy), a Toyota-sponsored show featuring collaborations between the car company's concept creators and local fashion designers to envision personal mobility designs, and a preview of spring collections from Chicago-based designers at Macy's.
