Le Royal Meridien King Edward Hotel hosted a dinner for 250 guests the night before the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame's annual induction ceremony. A number of songwriters slated to be inducted into the hall—including Joni Mitchell, Wilf Carter, and Raymond Egan—attended the gathering. Robbie Bishop, director of sales and marketing for Royal Meriden, worked with MCC Planners to create the look and ambiance for the elegant sit-down affair. The colour palette in the hotel's Sovereign ballroom was predominantly chocolate and kiwi. The linen tablecloths were either dark brown or a brown-and-green damask weave. The napkins, folded to resemble envelopes with the dinner menus inside, were of similar colours. A single arachnid orchid bloom completed each place setting. The two-tone colour scheme continued in the centerpieces. MCC provided different creations for each table, with designs such as brown leather containers filled with green fronds and tall tortoise-shell glass vases that could stand right-side up or upside down.
In-house chef Daniel Schick served northern black cod on beluga lentils and mustard dill vinaigrette, whole roasted Alberta beef tenderloin on New Brunswick lobster and asparagus risotto with blood orange foam, and a decadent cheese souffl?. A Canadian wine was paired with each dinner course. Songwriter Stephan Moccio, who has penned hit songs for artists such as Celine Dion, Sarah Brightman and Olivia Newton-John, provided the musical entertainment.
