There was no heartbreak at Toronto's Drake Hotel as the retro-tinged launch party for Alliance Atlantis film Hairspray rocked around the clock recently. Outside planners McNabb Roick Events worked hand in hand with Jasmine Baker, the Drake's director of sales and catering to ensure the bash rocked out in style. Planners from McNabb Roick brought flair into play, taking the historic Drake Hotel back to the distinctive early 1960s ambiance so prominent in Alliance Atlantis's highly anticipated film. Signature Rentals provided a plethora of retro props from laundry suspended from overhead clotheslines to the colorful vintage 45 rpm records scattered across the tables. Actors in costumes and big hair were everywhere at the party ironing grilled cheese sandwiches and standing in faux salon vignettes with prop hairdryers. Lighting specialists from Image Projection displayed tie-dyed projections on the Drake's faรงade and video projections on the upper deck. Once inside, guests were treated to classic diner cuisine catered by the Drake. Sound and lighting by Westbury National Show Systems soothed the senses while timely tunes sizzled the airwaves courtesy of DJs provided by Tingle Music. Above it all, searchlights supplied and operated by Image Projection gave the event the feel of a traditional Hollywood extravaganza.
Speaking of Hollywood, Alliance Atlantis' Hairspray launch party at the Drake displayed its fair share of star power. Amanda Bynes, Zak Efron, and other members of the cast and crew were on hand to meet, greet, and eat in true โ60s style.
