Even while New York's event industry endures a slew of cancellations stemming from the September 11 attacks, news arrives that a big event might come to the city early next year: The New York Post reports that Senator Charles Schumer has proposed moving the 2002 Super Bowl to the Big Apple's Giants Stadium. Originally scheduled for January 27 in New Orleans' Superdome, the big game was pushed back one week because of the delay in the season following the attack on the World Trade Center. But the Superdome is already booked for a convention the weekend of February 3, so the National Football League is considering other cities for the game, including Miami, Los Angeles and Tampa. "Playing this year's Super Bowl at Giants Stadium will be an ideal symbol of our triumph over terrorism," Schumer told the Post. "It will show the world that New York continues to go on. It will show the world that America is not afraid." And better yet, the suffering tourism economy would reap an estimated $400 million if the Super Bowl does come to town. And the event industry would feel the effects of the numerous promotional events and parties that would come with it.
