* INCOMING *

1. CES TEST: The annual Consumer Electronics Show will present "a vital time for the future of Yahoo." Adweek: "The ad world is dying to hear [C.E.O. Marrissa] Mayer’s plans for the company. And that’s scheduled to happen during a series of meetings with top digital agencies in Las Vegas at CES next month." http://bit.ly/XJWwxK

2. CHECKING IN: Where are people checking in on Foursquare? A look back at the year on the social site show trends such as the biggest festival (Coachella) and the biggest concert tour (Madonna), President Obama's most-liked check-in (the Democratic National Convention at Charlotte's Time Warner Cable Arena), and where people hung out over the July 4th holiday. http://bit.ly/Uf2pW0

3. PRO TIPS: Event planner Mindy Weiss describes how she tweaked a "winter wonderland"-themed event—think white linens trimmed in fur—and shares her holiday traditions and budget-friendly tips for New Year's Eve gatherings. Kansas City Star: http://bit.ly/WrlYsI

4. FOOD TRENDS OF '12: For fun: While everyone else looks back at 2012, Buzzfeed has the 15 hottest food trends of 1912. At dinner parties: "A common first course would have been half a grapefruit. Then you’d get a choice of two soups. Then some hot hors d’oeuvres. Then some cold hors d’oeuvres. Then some anchovies. And by this point you hadn’t even gotten to the entrees yet." http://bit.ly/UdoYdG

5. VINTAGE NEW YORK: The New York Times remembers Grand Central Palace, New York’s principal exhibition hall for 40 years and the impetus for the hotel boom on Lexington Avenue that included the Waldorf-Astoria. "But let’s be honest. Grand Central Palace was not about architecture. It was a setting where adults could play out their fantasies under the pretense of doing business." http://nyti.ms/Zj4bcB
