Freed Developments marked the sales launch of its new King St. West condominium, 75 Portland, with a party in the on-site sales centre and an adjoining temporary tent. Developer Peter Freed said he wanted to create an event that celebrated both the design of the 11-storey building and the fashionable lifestyle in the surrounding neighbourhood.Hardly a surprise given famed French designer Philippe Starck had a hand in designing the condo, Louis Ghost Chairs were in full display. The chairs—Starck created the design for Kartell in 2002—surrounded a long communal table in the centre of the room. Nicholas Pinney of Nicholas Pinney Designs designed the tent interior, creating a striking white-and-green colour scheme. The tent ceiling and walls, a long bar, and the top of the communal table supplied the white touches, while evergreen trees, green artificial turf, and lime green candelabras contributed the green colour palette. A sphere of faux orange flowers, visually arresting against the white-and-green backdrop, hung on the wall above the bar.
Guests played chess, checkers, and croquet in a games area at one end of the tent. Stoke Club provided finger sandwiches, and Babycakes served cupcakes for dessert. Sales pitches like "buy me," "live here," and "sleep here" were written in icing on top of the cupcakes.
