Perfect weather helped draw crowds to the 10th annual Tournament of Champions competition at Caledon Equestrian Park in Palgrave. The event is an opportunity for horse lovers to socialize, renew friendships, and watch some of Canada and North America’s best show-jumping riders compete. Toronto’s Amazing Food Service catered the four-day affair, while Collingwood’s Cheryl Headon-Malton and Associates provided decor services.
The final day’s V.I.P. luncheon, which preceded the $175,000 Canada Cup Championship, took place in a large tent from Caledon’s Totally Covered Event Rentals. The luncheon started off with baby greens with pineapple, strawberries, and shredded Jicama served with mango ginger vinaigrette. The choice of main courses included fusilli with herb roasted chicken, tomato, capers, garlic, extra virgin oil. Mike Weir’s Estate Cabernet Merlot and Chardonnay, produced by Creekside Estate Winery, were the featured wines.Arriving guests entered through a doorway bracketed by evergreen plants from Brookdale Tree Nursery of Stromberg. A single long stemmed phalaenopsis orchid highlighted each table, and pumpkins supporting sunflowers provided punctuation points on serving tables.
Cheryl Headon-Malton has been designing for the show since its resurrection 10 years ago. She says she keeps the general atmosphere “high end,” adding that all her designs are originals made exclusively for the show. For the Children’s Wish Gala held the previous evening, Headon-Malton’s design team created a magical-fantasy theme with black, white, and hot-pink highlights. Two thousand roses in various shades of pink were used for centrepieces, while disco balls brought the room to life with sparkles and flashes.
