At Chicago Movieoke's events, guests read dialogue from famous movie scenes as the films silently play on projectors behind them. (Think karaoke, but set to flicks instead of songs.) Cued by a teleprompter, participants enact two-minute snippets from a library of more than 250 films, including Titanic, Caddyshack, and Napoleon Dynamite.

The year-old company hosted events in bars and movie theaters in 2009; this year, it extends its services to corporate clients. Movieoke can take place in offices or event spaces in the city or suburbs, and typically last for three hours.

To kick things off, Movieoke staffers perform demo scenes; guests then sign up for their own performances. Scenes are enacted in sets of five; short breaks in between sets allow for eating, drinking, and socializing. The standard fee for the service is $1,000 plus travel costs. The package includes setup, an event M.C., and a technical engineer. Chicago Movieoke provides all necessary audiovisual equipment, and also brings in costumes and props. Hosts can make their own catering arrangements, if desired.
