June 18, 2015: Why Glastonbury Will Have See-Through Toilets, the Unsettling Way One Hotel Is Fighting Food Waste, Chicago Blackhawks Take Stanley Cup Out to Party

1. WHY GLASTONBURY WILL HAVE SEE-THROUGH TOILETS: Music fans using the toilet at the Glastonbury Festival in England will have to use a see-through toilet. Using a two-way mirror, they will be able to see outside, although no one will be able to see them. Mashable: Chris Wainright, head of communications at WaterAid, said Loo with a View aims to raise awareness about the fact that a third of the world's population has choice but to use the toilet in the open. ‘This installation will allow a brief glimpse into the lives of those who have nowhere safe to go to the toilet, and often suffer the indignity of being stared at, harassed or even attacked,’ Wainright said. ‘This is an issue that particularly affects women and girls who often have to wait until dark to defecate in the open, making them more vulnerable to abuse.’” http://on.mash.to/1LkqSRt

2. THE UNSETTLING WAY ONE HOTEL IS FIGHTING FOOD WASTE: To reduce food waste at its buffet, an upscale hotel in Switzerland has posted photos of starving children along with messages for guests to reconsider overloading their plates. Los Angeles Times: “‘Good morning dear guests. For ethical and moral reasons, in Switzerland, we do not throw away any food. Please put on your plate only what you do eat. Thank you for your understanding,’ reads one sign, posted in both Chinese and English at Hotel Monopol in Lucerne.” http://lat.ms/1Fn1nK9

3. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS TAKE STANLEY CUP OUT TO PARTY: Several Chicago venues have benefited from an unofficial tour of the Stanley Cup, hockey’s championship trophy, since the Blackhawks won it on Monday night. New York Post: “Fans were so keen to see the cup in person that the hashtag #cuptracker appeared on Twitter as crowds tried to track down the celebrating players. Since Monday, the 34.5-pound trophy’s been at a Cubs game, a private party in Wrigleyville, a dance club called The Mid and the JW Marriott hotel.” http://pge.sx/1TwPwUA
